Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
• Vocational Diploma or Short Course Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience servicing and repairing Caterpillar, Volvo, and Isuzu heavy equipment.
• Experience with RH200 shovel equipment is an advantage.
• Prior experience operating a variety of heavy equipment is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagnostic information.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
• Good understanding of workplace safety procedures and industry best practices.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Good vision or corrected vision using prescribed lenses.
• Ability to work independently and follow instructions effectively.
• Strong decision-making skills, particularly under pressure.
• Willingness to work extended hours when required.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems on heavy equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and scheduled equipment inspections.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Repair or replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, hydraulic systems, and related parts.
• Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, service bulletins, and repair instructions.
• Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment complies with company policies and applicable regulations.
• Test equipment after repairs to verify proper operation and performance.
• Operate welding, cutting, and fabrication equipment when required.
• Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and repair records.
• Keep the workshop and work area clean, organized, and compliant with workplace safety standards.
• Collaborate with supervisors and equipment operators to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
