FLOORING SANDER & FINISHER
Qualifications:
- Must have at least 3 years of relevant experience in the timber flooring industry, particularly in sanding, finishing, or installation.
- Proven experience operating professional drum sanders, belt sanders, and edgers.
- Practical knowledge of timber floor preparation, sanding techniques, repairs, and finishing procedures.
- Experience applying polyurethanes, oils, stains, and specialized protective finishes.
- Ability to assess timber floor conditions and determine appropriate preparation and finishing methods.
- Experience repairing damaged, worn, or older timber flooring is required.
- Knowledge of new wooden floor installation and preparation is an advantage.
- Must hold a current and clean Full Driver’s License.
- Must have a strong work ethic and be reliable and dependable.
- Must be physically fit and capable of performing sanding, finishing, installation, lifting, bending, kneeling, and other flooring-related duties.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to operate flooring machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements and safe handling of flooring chemicals and materials.
- Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent the business professionally on-site.
- Must be willing to take the IELTS/PTE examination.
Responsibilities:
- Operate professional drum sanders, belt sanders, and floor edgers to prepare new and existing timber floors.
- Assess the condition of timber flooring and determine the appropriate sanding, repair, and finishing requirements.
- Prepare work areas by removing or protecting furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces as necessary.
- Carry out sanding operations to remove old finishes, surface imperfections, scratches, stains, and uneven areas.
- Use sanding equipment safely and effectively to achieve a smooth and even floor surface.
- Perform detailed edging and sanding in corners, along walls, and in other areas that require precision work.
- Apply polyurethane, oils, stains, and specialized protective finishes according to product requirements and job specifications.
- Prepare timber surfaces properly before applying stains, oils, sealers, or protective coatings.
- Ensure finishes are applied evenly and achieve the required appearance, durability, and quality standards.
- Perform repairs to damaged, worn, or older timber flooring where required.
- Assist with the preparation and installation of new wooden flooring.
- Carry out floor preparation, measurements, cutting, fitting, and other installation support duties as required.
- Identify damaged boards, surface defects, gaps, uneven areas, and other flooring issues and report them appropriately.
- Maintain high-quality workmanship and ensure completed flooring meets client and company expectations.
- Protect surrounding walls, fixtures, furniture, and other property from dust, stains, coatings, and accidental damage.
- Clean and maintain sanding machines, edgers, applicators, hand tools, and other flooring equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout each project.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures when operating machinery, handling chemicals, and performing flooring work.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow safe practices when working with dust, coatings, solvents, and finishing products.
- Work efficiently to complete flooring projects according to agreed schedules and job requirements.
- Communicate professionally with clients, supervisors, contractors, and other site personnel.
- Represent the business professionally while working at residential, commercial, and other client sites.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service and respect client property and work environments.
- Perform other flooring, sanding, finishing, installation, and site-related duties as assigned.
