CRANE OPERATOR
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant working experience is required.
- No minimum educational attainment is required for this position.
- Male applicants are preferred for this role.
- Proven experience operating cranes for lifting, moving, positioning, and placing heavy materials or equipment.
- Strong knowledge of safe crane operation, load capacity, lifting procedures, and workplace hazards.
- Ability to read and understand load capacity charts and lifting plans.
- Knowledge of proper rigging practices and coordination with riggers and signal persons.
- Ability to accurately follow hand signals and radio communication during lifting operations.
- Good understanding of crane pre-operation inspections and identification of mechanical or safety defects.
- Knowledge of cables, pulleys, brakes, hooks, hoisting lines, outriggers, and crane safety devices.
- Ability to assess ground conditions, weather, worksite hazards, and crane setup requirements.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance with applicable local regulations and company procedures.
- Physically fit and capable of working in demanding construction, industrial, or lifting environments.
- Good concentration, coordination, judgment, and attention to detail.
- Responsible, disciplined, reliable, and safety-conscious.
- Willingness to follow company lifting procedures and work cooperatively with riggers, signal persons, supervisors, and other site personnel.
Responsibilities:
- Safely operate cranes to lift, move, position, and place heavy loads according to approved lifting procedures.
- Operate crane levers, buttons, pedals, engines, booms, and hoisting lines accurately and safely.
- Conduct thorough pre-operation inspections of the crane and related lifting equipment before use.
- Check cables, pulleys, brakes, hooks, safety devices, and other crane components for wear, damage, or defects.
- Verify load weights against the crane’s approved load capacity charts before every lifting operation.
- Ensure that loads are properly rigged and secured before lifting.
- Inspect the worksite and assess ground conditions, access areas, overhead obstructions, and other potential hazards before crane setup.
- Consider weather and environmental conditions that may affect safe lifting operations.
- Properly position and set up outriggers, blocks, and other crane-support equipment before lifting.
- Follow approved lifting plans, method statements, and company procedures for all lifting operations.
- Follow hand signals and radio instructions from designated riggers, signal persons, or banksmen, particularly during blind lifts.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with riggers and other workers throughout lifting operations.
- Operate the crane smoothly and precisely to prevent load swinging, collision, or damage to materials and equipment.
- Stop lifting operations immediately when unsafe conditions, unclear signals, equipment problems, or unexpected hazards are identified.
- Maintain safe working distances and ensure unauthorized personnel remain clear of lifting zones.
- Monitor crane stability, load movement, and surrounding conditions during every lifting operation.
- Clean and lubricate crane components and moving parts as required.
- Report mechanical defects, equipment damage, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform or assist with minor maintenance tasks within the operator’s authorized scope.
- Keep crane operating areas and equipment clean, orderly, and free from unnecessary hazards.
- Maintain proper inspection and operational records as required by company procedures.
- Comply with applicable Safety, Health and Environment National Authority (SHENA) requirements and other local safety standards.
- Strictly follow company lifting plans, risk-control measures, and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Perform other crane operation and lifting-related duties assigned by management.
