Alaska Council of School Administration is seeking a qualified and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide financial leadership and business management support within a school district environment in the USA. The successful candidate will oversee financial planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, resource management, and other business operations while supporting the district’s educational and organizational objectives. The role also requires experience in labor relations, contract negotiations, and supervisory leadership.

CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Qualifications:

• Must have experience in school district business management or related work experience with schools.
• Must have at least 3 years of progressive supervisory experience.
• Experience in labor relations and contract negotiations.
• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or any related field.
• Open to Male and Female applicants.
• Strong knowledge of financial management, budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and resource management.
• Ability to analyze financial information and develop practical recommendations for district leadership.
• Experience managing budgets and monitoring financial performance in an educational, public-sector, or similar organizational environment.
• Strong supervisory and team-management skills with the ability to lead finance and business personnel effectively.
• Good understanding of labor costs, employment agreements, compensation, and contract-related financial matters.
• Strong organizational, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work professionally with school administrators, employees, government representatives, vendors, auditors, and other stakeholders.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, integrity, and accountability in handling financial matters.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting financial reporting and administrative deadlines.

Responsibilities:

• Provide strategic financial leadership and business management support for school district operations.
• Develop, coordinate, and monitor annual budgets in alignment with district priorities and financial objectives.
• Oversee financial planning, forecasting, accounting, reporting, and expenditure management.
• Monitor revenues, expenditures, cash flow, and financial performance to support sound fiscal management.
• Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial reports, statements, budgets, and other required financial documents.
• Establish and maintain effective financial controls, procedures, and accountability systems.
• Ensure compliance with applicable financial policies, regulations, accounting standards, and school district requirements.
• Monitor the proper allocation and utilization of district financial resources.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations to district leadership to support informed decision-making.
• Assist in developing long-term financial strategies and plans for sustainable school district operations.
• Oversee financial processes related to payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other business functions as applicable.
• Monitor contracts, expenditures, and financial commitments to ensure compliance with approved budgets and policies.
• Coordinate with auditors, financial institutions, government agencies, vendors, and other external stakeholders when required.
• Prepare and present financial information, budget updates, and recommendations to district leadership and relevant governing bodies.
• Supervise, guide, and evaluate assigned business and finance personnel.
• Establish clear performance expectations and promote professional development among supervised employees.
• Apply effective management practices to improve efficiency, accountability, and quality of financial operations.
• Participate in labor relations activities and assist with employee-related financial and administrative matters.
• Support and participate in contract negotiations, including analysis of financial implications and applicable employment agreements.
• Maintain knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, labor costs, compensation structures, and other financial considerations affecting district operations.
• Work collaboratively with school administrators, department heads, employees, and other stakeholders to address financial and operational concerns.
• Identify financial risks and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive measures.
• Maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive financial, personnel, and organizational information.
• Perform other financial management, business administration, and executive duties as assigned.
