Steel Fixer

Qualifications:

• Diploma in a related field or vocational training in steel fabrication.
• Vocational Diploma or Short Course Certificate in a related field is required.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience.
• At least 4 years of shipyard steel fitting experience under IACS or equivalent standards.
• Experience fitting structures and outfitting elements on new ships or submarines under IACS or equivalent standards.
• Knowledge of steel fitting, alignment, tack welding, grinding, and related shipyard procedures.
• Skilled in using levels, squares, laser tools, jacks, clamps, come-alongs, and strong backs.
• Knowledge of hot work permits, fume extraction protocols, and confined-space safety procedures.
• Ability to inspect steel joints, identify defects, and document fit-up measurements and non-conformities.
• Male applicants are preferred for this role.

Responsibilities:

• Perform daily steel fitting tasks according to production schedules and applicable classification society tolerances.
• Fit and align steel structures, plates, profiles, and outfitting elements for new ships or submarines.
• Inspect joints for gaps, misalignment, and cleanliness before welding.
• Align steel plates and profiles using levels, squares, laser tools, and other measuring equipment.
• Correct misalignment using jacks, clamps, and heat-straightening techniques.
• Carry out tack welding, grinding, and ceramic backing setup as required.
• Use alignment tools such as come-alongs and strong backs during steel fitting operations.
• Troubleshoot steel fit-up challenges, including work in confined spaces.
• Document fit-up measurements and report non-conformities and defects to QC Inspectors.
• Follow hot work permit requirements, fume extraction protocols, and workplace safety procedures.
• Apply Lean principles to minimize rework and maintain production efficiency.
