Pacific International Hospital is seeking a qualified and experienced Registered Nurse (OPD-In-Charge) to oversee nursing operations and patient care within the Outpatient Department (OPD) in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will provide high-quality nursing care, coordinate daily outpatient activities, supervise nursing staff, and ensure that patients receive safe, efficient, and professional care in accordance with hospital policies and clinical standards.

REGISTERED NURSE (OPD-IN-CHARGE)

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent nursing qualification.
• Valid and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license applicable to the place of employment.
• Proven experience in outpatient nursing, hospital nursing, or a related clinical setting.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management skills.
• Ability to supervise, coordinate, and effectively manage nursing staff and daily OPD activities.
• Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
• Advanced certifications in specialized nursing areas such as intensive care, pediatrics, or oncology are an advantage.
• Experience with specific medical equipment and clinical procedures is an advantage.
• Strong clinical assessment, patient-care, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work effectively with physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, patients, and families.
• Ability to communicate with patients from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds; knowledge of multiple languages is an advantage.
• Membership in national nursing associations is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of infection control, medication safety, patient safety, and professional nursing standards.
• Reliable, organized, compassionate, and capable of working effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide safe, compassionate, and comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Outpatient Department.
• Assess patients’ health conditions, nursing needs, vital signs, symptoms, and clinical status.
• Coordinate the daily operations and workflow of the OPD nursing unit.
• Supervise, guide, and support nurses and other nursing staff assigned to the department.
• Delegate nursing duties appropriately and monitor staff performance and patient care activities.
• Ensure efficient patient flow, proper prioritization, and timely delivery of outpatient services.
• Coordinate with physicians, specialists, laboratory staff, pharmacy personnel, and other healthcare professionals.
• Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
• Assist physicians and other healthcare providers during consultations, examinations, procedures, and treatments.
• Perform and supervise appropriate nursing procedures within the scope of professional practice.
• Monitor patients during and after procedures and promptly report changes in their condition.
• Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, follow-up care, preventive health, and other healthcare needs.
• Maintain accurate and complete patient records using electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other hospital documentation systems.
• Ensure proper documentation of nursing assessments, treatments, medications, procedures, and patient outcomes.
• Maintain and monitor the availability and proper use of medical equipment, supplies, and emergency materials.
• Ensure proper handling, cleaning, storage, and maintenance of nursing equipment and supplies.
• Follow infection prevention and control procedures, patient safety standards, and hospital policies.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and initiate appropriate nursing interventions within the scope of practice.
• Coordinate referrals, follow-up appointments, diagnostic procedures, and other patient care requirements.
• Participate in staff meetings, clinical audits, quality improvement activities, and continuing professional development.
• Support the orientation, training, mentoring, and competency development of nursing staff.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold professional nursing ethics at all times.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families, including patients from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
• Perform other nursing, supervisory, and OPD-related duties as assigned by hospital management.
