Workforce Abundance is seeking an experienced Panel Beater to repair and restore damaged vehicle bodywork to a safe, functional, and high-quality condition. The role involves repairing metal, fibreglass, and plastic body components, removing dents, straightening damaged structures, replacing panels, and preparing repaired surfaces for finishing.
PANEL BEATER
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Panel Beater.
- Certificate in Panel Beating or similar qualification.
- Certificate IV or at least 3 years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
- Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to formal qualifications in some instances.
- Proven practical experience repairing and restoring damaged vehicle bodywork.
- Experience working with metal, fibreglass, and plastic vehicle body components.
- Strong panel-beating skills, including dent removal, panel shaping, straightening, and replacement.
- Ability to use mechanical and hydraulic equipment for straightening damaged vehicles and components.
- Experience removing and replacing damaged vehicle panels and body sections.
- Ability to use plastic fillers and perform filing, grinding, and sanding to achieve smooth repaired surfaces.
- Ability to accurately measure, align, and fit replacement panels.
- Good understanding of vehicle body construction and repair procedures.
- Proficient in using hand tools, power tools, and panel repair equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to inspect completed repairs for alignment, fit, finish, and structural integrity.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently when required.
- Ability to follow technical instructions, repair specifications, and workplace safety procedures.
- Physically capable of performing demanding automotive repair work.
- Reliable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of an automotive workshop team.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect damaged vehicles and assess the extent of damage to body panels and related components.
- Remove damaged panels, body parts, upholstery, accessories, and other components as necessary to gain access to repair areas.
- Repair damage to metal, fibreglass, and plastic vehicle bodywork.
- Remove dents and restore damaged panels using appropriate hand tools and panel-beating techniques.
- Hammer, shape, and manipulate metal panels to restore their original form and contours.
- Straighten damaged vehicle bodies and structural components using mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
- Replace severely damaged sections with new, refurbished, or second-hand replacement panels.
- Measure and align replacement panels to ensure proper fit, positioning, and body alignment.
- Secure replacement panels using appropriate joining and fastening methods.
- Fill dents, depressions, and surface imperfections with suitable plastic fillers.
- File, grind, sand, and smooth repaired surfaces to achieve the required finish.
- Prepare repaired body panels for painting and refinishing operations.
- Repair or replace damaged plastic and fibreglass body components where required.
- Check repaired areas for alignment, panel gaps, contours, and overall appearance.
- Refit upholstery, trims, accessories, and other components removed during the repair process.
- Use hand tools, power tools, hydraulic equipment, and workshop machinery safely and correctly.
- Follow manufacturer repair specifications and appropriate vehicle body repair procedures.
- Inspect completed repairs to ensure the vehicle meets required quality and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of repair work and parts or materials used when required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures and properly use required PPE.
- Work efficiently to complete repairs within established timeframes while maintaining quality workmanship.
