Pacific International Hospital is seeking a qualified and experienced Registrar – Acute & Critical Care to join its medical team in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will provide medical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and critical care support for patients with acute and life-threatening conditions. The role requires strong clinical judgment, emergency and critical care knowledge, procedural competency, and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
REGISTRAR ACUTE & CRITICAL CARE
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience.
- Medical Degree (MBBS, MD, or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s/College Degree in Medical Science or a related field, as applicable to the medical degree requirement.
- Valid medical registration and professional licensure.
- Completion of medical internship and relevant residency training.
- Relevant experience in Intensive Care Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, or a related specialty.
Critical Care training is preferred. - Demonstrated procedural competency appropriate to acute and critical care practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, decision-making, and patient-management skills.
- Ability to remain effective in high-pressure acute and critical care situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and manage patients presenting with acute, complex, and critical medical conditions.
- Provide timely medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of critically ill patients.
- Participate in the management of patients requiring intensive care, emergency intervention, and close clinical monitoring.
- Conduct comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations.
- Develop and implement appropriate treatment and management plans in consultation with senior physicians and specialists.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs, clinical condition, laboratory results, imaging findings, and response to treatment.
- Recognize and promptly respond to clinical deterioration and medical emergencies.
- Assist in resuscitation and stabilization of critically ill or unstable patients.
- Perform appropriate clinical procedures within the scope of training, competency, and hospital protocols.
- Assist with airway management, vascular access, emergency procedures, and other critical care interventions as appropriately trained and authorized.
- Work closely with consultants, specialists, nurses, allied health professionals, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Participate in emergency response, ward rounds, intensive care rounds, and clinical handovers.
- Request and interpret appropriate laboratory investigations, diagnostic imaging, and other clinical tests.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient medical records and clinical documentation.
- Communicate relevant patient information clearly during referrals, handovers, and consultations.
- Provide appropriate communication and support to patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and clinical progress.
- Follow hospital policies, clinical guidelines, infection prevention procedures, and patient safety standards.
- Maintain professional standards and comply with applicable medical laws and regulations in Papua New Guinea.
- Participate in clinical education, case discussions, audits, quality improvement activities, and continuing professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional and ethical standards in all patient interactions.
- Perform other medical and clinical duties within the scope of qualification and assigned responsibilities.
