Hybrid / Electric Vehicle (EV) Technician
Qualifications:
- Relevant automotive technical qualification, diploma, certification or equivalent recognised practical training.β Minimum five (5) years of
- progressive automotive diagnostic/repair experience, including substantial hands-on hybrid and/or EV experience.
- Demonstrable hands-on competence working safely with high-voltage vehicle systems.
- Formal hybrid/EV or high-voltage safety training/certification is strongly preferred.
- Strong competence with modern scan tools, electrical test equipment, wiring diagrams and technical service information.
- Experience diagnosing hybrid battery, inverter/converter, electric drive, charging, thermal-management and vehicle-network faults.
- Experience with Toyota/Lexus hybrid systems is strongly preferred; Mercedes-Benz hybrid/EV or other recognised OEM experience is an advantage.
- Ability to diagnose faults systematically rather than relying on parts replacement.
- Experience training or mentoring technicians is preferred.
- Good written and spoken English.
Responsibilities:
- Hybrid/EV Diagnosis and Repair
- Diagnose, service, and repair hybrid and battery-electric vehicle systems using approved technical procedures and manufacturer specifications.
- Diagnose faults involving high-voltage batteries, inverters/converters, DC-DC converters, electric motors/generators, charging systems, and
- thermal-management systems.
- Perform systematic electrical and electronic fault-finding using scan tools, digital multimeters, insulation-resistance testing equipment, and
- other approved diagnostic tools.
- Interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), live data, wiring diagrams, technical service information, and manufacturer repair procedures.
Perform battery condition and health assessments and identify module, cell, cooling, or battery control-system faults where applicable. - Diagnose isolation faults, charging faults, interlock faults, and vehicle communication or network-related issues.
- Verify completed repairs through diagnostic scanning, functional checks, testing, and road testing where applicable.
- Follow a systematic diagnostic process and avoid unnecessary component or parts replacement.
- High-Voltage Safety
- Strictly follow high-voltage isolation, lockout/tagout, and verification procedures before working on HV systems.
- Use appropriate insulated tools, personal protective equipment (PPE), and approved test equipment for high-voltage work.
- Establish and maintain safe work zones during high-voltage inspection, diagnosis, repair, and testing.
- Ensure high-voltage batteries and related components are handled, transported, and stored safely.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged high-voltage components, electrical hazards, or safety incidents.
- Support the development and enforcement of ProAMS hybrid/EV emergency response and high-voltage safety procedures.
- Charging Systems and EV Equipment
- Diagnose vehicle-side AC/DC charging faults and related communication and control issues.
- Inspect and test onboard chargers, charging ports, charging cables, and associated vehicle components where applicable.
- Assist in the technical evaluation and safe use of EV workshop charging and diagnostic equipment.
- Support ProAMS personnel in understanding safe EV charging, vehicle handling, and workshop procedures.
- Quality Control and Documentation
- Complete repair orders and diagnostic records accurately, including findings, test results, and repairs performed.
- Ensure hybrid/EV repairs meet ProAMS quality standards before vehicles are released.
- Report repeat faults, unusual failures, and recurring technical issues and assist with root-cause analysis.
- Maintain records of high-voltage isolation, testing, diagnostic procedures, and safety activities where required.
- Workshop Support
- Support the Workshop Manager and other technicians with complex electrical, electronic, hybrid, and EV diagnostic cases.
- Assist Service Advisors with technical explanations and repair-related information when required.
- Coordinate with Parts personnel to identify the correct hybrid/EV components and minimize unnecessary parts replacement.
- Maintain hybrid/EV tools, PPE, diagnostic equipment, and assigned work areas in proper condition.
- Assist with maintaining an organized, safe, and professional hybrid/EV workshop environment.
- Strategic Responsibilities During Start-Up
- Assist ProAMS in establishing a safe, professional, and effective hybrid/EV service capability.
- Review and recommend appropriate hybrid/EV diagnostic tools, insulated tools, PPE, battery-handling equipment, and specialist resources.
- Assist in developing hybrid/EV standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety procedures, inspection checklists, and diagnostic workflows.
- Advise the Workshop Manager and management on safe workshop zoning and requirements for high-voltage work.
- Support evaluation of ProAMS readiness to service different hybrid and EV models and recommend appropriate capability limits where
- necessary.
- Help establish technical standards designed to prevent unsafe work, misdiagnosis, and unnecessary replacement of expensive hybrid/EV components.
- Training and Knowledge Transfer
- Actively train and mentor Nigerian technicians in hybrid/EV fundamentals and safe working practices.
- Provide structured practical coaching on high-voltage awareness, isolation procedures, diagnostics, and component identification.
- Conduct or support regular hybrid/EV technical and safety training sessions.
- Develop or contribute to internal technical reference materials, checklists, diagnostic guides, and training content.
- Promote knowledge retention and technical capability within ProAMS rather than dependence on a single specialist.
- Management and Technical Reporting
- Report significant hybrid/EV faults, safety concerns, and technical findings to the Workshop Manager.
- Provide recommendations regarding diagnostic tools, workshop equipment, PPE, training, and other technical resources.
- Report battery and high-voltage component conditions requiring special handling, further testing, or replacement.
- Provide periodic updates on hybrid/EV repair jobs, recurring faults, training activities, and capability-development requirements.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and communicate important findings clearly to management and relevant workshop personnel.

- NBI clearance valid for at least 1 year with “no derogatory / no record on file” remarks
- PEOS certificate
