Genset Electrical Technician
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Engineering (Electrical/Electronic), Engineering (Others), or a similar field.
- Completion of a Diesel Technology program or vocational training is preferred.
- Technical college training and professional Diesel Certification are an advantage.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, with experience in motor vehicle electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and gensets.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of diesel engines, generator sets, mechanical systems, and electrical systems.
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults in gensets and diesel-powered equipment.
- Experience with generator control panels, electrical wiring, batteries, and related electrical components.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems and components.
- Ability to dismantle, inspect, repair, replace, and reassemble mechanical components.
- Ability to read and follow service manuals, technical instructions, and manufacturer specifications.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures, including oil changes, lubrication, inspections, and engine tune-ups.
- Skilled in using mechanical tools, electrical testing instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to safe, high-quality workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on mechanical and electrical work.
- Reliable, hardworking, responsible, and safety-conscious.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical maintenance team.
Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines, gensets, control panels, and related components.
- Inspect generator sets, engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and mechanical components to identify faults and defects.
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components when required.
- Inspect dismantled components for wear, damage, and other defects.
- Repair, replace, and recondition worn or defective mechanical and electrical parts.
- Reassemble engines, gensets, and mechanical components according to technical specifications and service procedures.
- Use service manuals, technical documentation, and manufacturer guidelines when performing repairs and maintenance.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on gensets, diesel engines, and related equipment.
- Conduct oil changes, lubrication, engine tune-ups, inspections, and other routine servicing activities.
- Inspect, test, and maintain genset electrical systems, wiring, batteries, control panels, and associated components.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults affecting generator performance and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic systems and components associated with diesel-powered equipment.
- Perform operational tests following repairs or maintenance to confirm that gensets and related equipment are functioning correctly.
- Monitor generator performance and identify potential mechanical or electrical problems before equipment failure occurs.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, servicing, repairs, replacement parts, and maintenance activities.
- Use appropriate diagnostic equipment, electrical testing instruments, hand tools, and power tools safely.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, technical procedures, workplace safety rules, and environmental requirements.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Properly handle and dispose of used oil, lubricants, filters, and other maintenance materials.
- Report major equipment faults, required parts, and safety concerns to supervisors or management.
- Perform other genset, diesel mechanic, electrical, hydraulic, and maintenance duties as assigned.
