Bundaberg Sugar Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter & Turner (Sugar Mill) to join its industrial maintenance team in Australia. This opportunity is suited to mechanical professionals with strong hands-on experience in heavy industry, sugar milling, mechanical maintenance, fabrication, industrial pumps, and machinery repair. The successful candidate will perform mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, overhaul, machining, and installation work to ensure reliable and efficient operation of sugar mill equipment.

FITTER & TURNER (SUGAR MILL)

Qualifications:

• Graduate of Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical program.
• Fitter & Turner or Mechanical Fitter qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience.
• Strong hands-on experience in industrial mechanical maintenance, heavy industry, sugar milling, fabrication, or related environments.
• Proven experience in industrial pump repair, maintenance, and overhaul.
• Experience working with centrifugal, mono, vane, and gear pumps.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and mechanical specifications.
• Experience with valves, actuators, cylinders, gearboxes, motors, and pneumatic systems.
• Proficient in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, lathes, drilling machines, and other mechanical workshop equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical fitting, machining, component repair, alignment, and equipment installation.
• Rigging and dogging experience is an advantage.
• Experience with centrifugal/vacuum pans and sugar milling equipment is an advantage.
• Experience with VMC, Busco, URC-SONEDCO, BISCOM, or Lopez Sugar Corporation is an advantage.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, quality workmanship, and preventive maintenance.
• Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on industrial maintenance work.
• Ability to work effectively in a heavy industrial and sugar mill environment.
• IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is an advantage.
• Reliable, hardworking, technically competent, and able to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.

Responsibilities:

• Perform mechanical maintenance, repair, servicing, and overhaul of sugar mill machinery and industrial equipment.
• Inspect, diagnose, dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical equipment and components.
• Carry out maintenance and overhaul work on industrial pumps, including centrifugal, mono, vane, and gear pumps.
• Troubleshoot pump failures, mechanical faults, leaks, vibration, alignment issues, and other equipment problems.
• Repair, replace, and maintain valves, actuators, hydraulic cylinders, gearboxes, motors, and pneumatic components.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, engineering diagrams, equipment manuals, and mechanical specifications.
• Perform precision fitting, machining, fabrication, and modification of mechanical components as required.
• Operate lathes, drilling machines, hand tools, power tools, and other workshop equipment safely and effectively.
• Measure, inspect, and finish machined components to required dimensions and tolerances.
• Conduct shaft, bearing, coupling, seal, and mechanical component replacement and adjustment.
• Perform equipment alignment, installation, dismantling, and reassembly activities.
• Assist with the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical plant and machinery.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to reduce equipment breakdowns and unplanned downtime.
• Inspect machinery regularly and identify worn, damaged, or defective components requiring repair or replacement.
• Assist with the maintenance of centrifugal and vacuum pans and other sugar milling equipment where required.
• Perform rigging, lifting, positioning, and mechanical equipment handling activities in accordance with approved procedures.
• Work with maintenance and production teams to safely complete planned shutdowns, repairs, and equipment servicing.
• Follow work orders, maintenance schedules, technical instructions, and established maintenance procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, equipment condition, and replacement components.
• Follow workplace health and safety, environmental, lockout/tagout, and equipment isolation procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and work area.
• Assist in identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance efficiency, and plant performance.
• Perform other mechanical fitting, turning, maintenance, and sugar mill duties as assigned.
