Bundaberg Sugar Ltd is seeking a highly experienced Fitter & Turner (Refinery) to join its sugar processing and industrial maintenance operations in Australia. The position is suited to mechanical professionals with extensive sugar mill and refinery maintenance experience, particularly in pumps, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, rotating equipment, turbines, boilers, process equipment, and heavy mechanical machinery. The successful candidate will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, equipment overhauls, troubleshooting, repairs, and mechanical fitting work to support safe and reliable refinery operations.
FITTER & TURNER (REFINERY)
Qualifications:
- Graduate of Mechanical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical program.
- Fitter & Turner or Mechanical Fitter qualification.
- Minimum 7 years of sugar mill experience, with 10 years preferred.
- Extensive hands-on experience in sugar mill, refinery, or heavy industrial mechanical maintenance.
- Proven experience in the overhaul and maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
- Strong experience with centrifugal and mono pumps.
- Experience with mill rollers, pinions, journal brasses, shredders, and carriers.
- Proven experience in turbine repair and maintenance.
- Experience with boiler overhaul, bagasse handling, and ash handling systems is preferred.
- Knowledge and practical experience with pipework, pressure vessels, centrifugals, and process equipment.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance skills are preferred.
- Welding and oxy-cutting skills are preferred.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting, fitting, alignment, and repair skills.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and mechanical specifications.
- Experience with heavy industrial machinery and large-scale maintenance shutdowns.
- Overhead crane experience is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on maintenance work in a demanding sugar refinery environment.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary maintenance team.
- Willing to work in industrial conditions and participate in shutdowns, overtime, or shift work as required.
- IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical fitting, maintenance, repair, servicing, and overhaul of sugar refinery and mill equipment.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy industrial machinery and processing equipment.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, overhaul, align, and reassemble mechanical equipment and components.
- Carry out overhaul and maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, and rotating equipment.
- Repair and maintain centrifugal and mono pumps, including inspection of components, seals, bearings, shafts, and related parts.
- Diagnose mechanical faults, equipment failures, abnormal vibration, alignment problems, leaks, and other operating issues.
- Perform bearing inspection, replacement, lubrication, alignment, and adjustment.
- Maintain and repair conveyors, drive systems, shafts, couplings, sprockets, chains, and other material-handling equipment.
- Perform maintenance and repair work on mill rollers, pinions, journal brasses, shredders, and carriers.
- Assist with the maintenance and overhaul of sugar mill rotating and crushing equipment.
- Perform inspection, servicing, repair, and maintenance of turbines and associated mechanical components.
- Assist with boiler overhaul and maintenance activities where required.
- Maintain and repair bagasse and ash handling systems, conveyors, chutes, and associated equipment.
- Carry out mechanical work on pipework, pressure vessels, process equipment, and refinery systems.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of centrifugals and other sugar processing equipment.
- Use mechanical fitting, hydraulic, pneumatic, welding, and oxy-cutting skills when required for maintenance and repair activities.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, equipment specifications, and maintenance instructions.
- Perform equipment alignment, shaft installation, coupling adjustments, and precision mechanical fitting.
- Operate or assist with overhead crane and lifting equipment for the safe handling and positioning of heavy machinery and components.
- Conduct equipment inspections and identify worn, damaged, or defective components requiring repair or replacement.
- Participate in planned maintenance shutdowns, equipment overhauls, and major refinery maintenance projects.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, equipment condition, and replacement components.
- Work closely with engineers, maintenance personnel, operators, and production teams to resolve mechanical problems and minimize downtime.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, equipment isolation and lockout/tagout requirements, and environmental standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop and work area.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and maintain efficient refinery operations.
- Perform other mechanical fitting, refinery maintenance, and sugar processing equipment duties as assigned.
