Bundaberg Sugar Ltd is seeking a qualified and experienced Fitter & Turner (Packaging) to join its industrial maintenance team in Australia. The position is suited to mechanical professionals with strong experience in packaging equipment maintenance, pneumatic systems, mechanical machinery, and food-production environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving packaging machinery and associated mechanical and pneumatic systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production.
FITTER & TURNER (PACKAGING)
Qualifications:
- Graduate of Mechanical, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical program.
- Fitter & Turner or Mechanical Fitter qualification.
- Minimum 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience.
- Strong practical experience with pneumatic systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Pneumatic training certification is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pneumatic cylinders, actuators, valves, air systems, regulators, and related components.
- Experience with gearboxes and geared motors is preferred.
- Experience with servo-drive systems is an advantage.
- Strong mechanical and pneumatic troubleshooting skills.
- Previous experience maintaining packaging equipment and production machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals, schematics, and equipment specifications.
- Experience in planned preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance programs.
- Experience in food-production or food-processing environments is an advantage.
- Knowledge of food-production safety, hygiene, and workplace maintenance requirements.
- Experience with VMC, URC-SONEDCO, or Busco is preferred.
- Good understanding of mechanical fitting, equipment adjustment, component replacement, and machine reliability.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on industrial maintenance work.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing and packaging environment.
- Strong safety awareness and ability to follow established workplace procedures.
- IELTS 6.0 or equivalent is an advantage.
Responsibilities:
- Perform mechanical maintenance, repair, servicing, and inspection of packaging machinery and production equipment.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure reliable operation of packaging production lines.
- Inspect equipment regularly and identify worn, damaged, leaking, or defective components.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and pneumatic faults affecting packaging equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot pneumatic systems, including cylinders, actuators, valves, regulators, air lines, and related components.
- Inspect and repair pneumatic cylinders, actuators, valves, air preparation units, and compressed-air systems.
- Adjust and test pneumatic components to ensure proper operation and performance.
- Maintain and troubleshoot gearboxes, geared motors, drives, and other mechanical transmission components.
- Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of servo-drive systems where required.
- Carry out equipment adjustments, alignment, lubrication, component replacement, and mechanical repairs.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical and pneumatic components.
- Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment safely.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, maintenance instructions, and technical specifications.
- Identify root causes of recurring mechanical and pneumatic failures and recommend corrective actions.
- Perform planned maintenance activities according to established maintenance schedules and work orders.
- Assist with equipment changeovers, adjustments, installations, and commissioning of packaging machinery.
- Monitor machine performance and report potential equipment failures or production risks to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, replacement parts, and equipment condition.
- Work closely with production operators, engineers, electricians, and other maintenance personnel to resolve equipment problems.
- Follow food-production safety, hygiene, quality, and environmental requirements when performing maintenance work.
- Apply appropriate isolation, lockout/tagout, and workplace safety procedures before carrying out maintenance.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance workshop and production work area.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing downtime, improving equipment reliability, and increasing production efficiency.
- Participate in planned shutdowns and major maintenance activities as required.
- Perform other mechanical fitting, turning, packaging equipment maintenance, and technical duties assigned by management.
