EXCAVATOR OPERATOR
Qualifications:
- At least 3 years of verifiable work experience in civil drainage or underground services.
- Proven experience operating an excavator in civil construction or related projects.
- Ability to safely operate heavy plant and machinery in different construction site conditions.
- At least High School Graduate.
- Must have a valid driver’s licence, Code CE.
- Good understanding of excavation, trenching, drainage, and underground service works.
- Ability to follow technical instructions, site plans, safety procedures, and supervisor directions.
- Physically fit and capable of working outdoors and performing demanding construction duties.
- Strong awareness of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Responsible, reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively as part of a construction team.
- Willing to work in different weather and site conditions as required.
- Willing to take IELTS or PTE and obtain a minimum score of 4.0 in IELTS or 29 in PTE.
Responsibilities:
- Operate excavators safely and efficiently for civil construction, drainage, excavation, and underground service works.
- Perform trenching, digging, earthmoving, grading, and excavation activities according to project requirements.
- Excavate trenches and work areas for drainage, sewerage, stormwater, wastewater, and underground utility installations.
- Safely position and operate excavators around existing underground services and other site structures.
- Use excavator attachments and equipment appropriate to the assigned construction task.
- Load, move, spread, and stockpile soil, gravel, aggregate, and other construction materials.
- Assist with the installation and preparation of underground drainage and utility systems as required.
- Maintain proper excavation depths, trench widths, slopes, and levels according to plans and instructions.
- Follow directions from supervisors, site managers, civil construction crews, and other tradespeople.
- Conduct daily pre-start inspections of excavators and report mechanical defects or safety issues.
- Operate machinery in accordance with manufacturer instructions and workplace safety requirements.
- Maintain safe working distances from workers, vehicles, structures, power lines, and underground utilities.
- Assist with site preparation, backfilling, compaction, and reinstatement activities when required.
- Keep excavation areas and work sites organized and free from unnecessary hazards.
- Properly secure and shut down machinery after use and assist with routine equipment care.
- Comply with New Zealand health and safety regulations, site rules, and environmental requirements.
- Minimize damage to existing infrastructure, underground services, roads, and surrounding property.
- Work cooperatively with civil construction crews and other plant operators to maintain efficient site operations.
- Perform other excavation, plant operation, and civil construction duties as assigned.
