Africa Atlantic Rubber Industry Limited is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Cost Control Officer to support financial and cost management operations in Nigeria. The successful candidate will monitor procurement, inventory valuation, production and operational expenses, analyze cost variances, verify financial and purchasing documents, and prepare regular cost control and profitability reports to support effective business decision-making.
COST CONTROL OFFICER
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience is required.
- Candidates must be a Bachelor’s / College Degree holder in Finance, Accountancy, Banking, or similar fields.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree or above in Accounting, Finance, or related majors is preferred.
- Preference may be given to graduates from recognized national universities.
- Minimum 2–3 years of experience in general accounting, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and bank reconciliation.
- Basic knowledge of cost accounting, cost control, or manufacturing finance is an advantage.
- Knowledge of inventory valuation, stock reconciliation, procurement costs, and expense monitoring.
- Ability to analyze cost variances and identify discrepancies or unexpected cost increases.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes, and financial records.
- Good understanding of accounting principles, financial documentation, and internal control procedures.
- Comfortable using Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel, for financial analysis and reporting.
- Familiarity with accounting software is required; QuickBooks or SAP experience is preferred.
- Good numerical, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with accounting, procurement, warehouse, supply chain, and production teams.
- Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and capable of handling financial information confidentially.
- Good English communication skills and ability to prepare clear financial and cost-control reports.
Responsibilities:
- Track daily material procurement costs, inventory valuation, production expenses, and operational costs against approved budget targets.
- Monitor actual expenditures and compare them with established budgets, standards, and cost targets.
- Conduct regular cost variance analysis to identify unexpected cost increases, overruns, or unfavorable deviations.
- Investigate significant cost variances and prepare reports for management review.
- Monitor material and operational costs throughout the procurement and production processes.
- Coordinate with warehouse and supply chain teams to maintain accurate inventory records and cost information.
- Participate in regular physical stocktakes and reconcile physical inventory with accounting and system records.
- Monitor inventory variances and assist in identifying causes of discrepancies.
- Help minimize inventory losses, waste, slow-moving items, and potential obsolescence.
- Review supplier invoices, purchase orders, delivery notes, and related documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Verify quantities, prices, costs, and supporting documentation before cost allocations are recorded.
- Ensure costs are properly classified and allocated to the appropriate products, departments, projects, or operations.
- Coordinate with procurement, warehouse, production, and accounting teams to resolve discrepancies in cost and inventory records.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cost control sheets for management review.
- Prepare product cost and product margin analysis to support profitability monitoring.
- Monitor material usage, production costs, operational expenses, and other factors affecting product margins.
- Prepare waste management and cost reports and identify areas where waste reduction may improve cost efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and organized records of cost-related transactions, reports, reconciliations, and supporting documents.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable-related activities when required.
- Support general accounting activities, including account reconciliation and review of financial records.
- Assist in monitoring bank transactions and performing bank reconciliation when assigned.
- Use accounting software and financial systems to record, analyze, and report cost information.
- Identify opportunities for improved cost control, accurate financial reporting, and efficient resource utilization.
- Ensure cost-control activities comply with company policies, accounting procedures, and internal controls.
- Perform other accounting, finance, cost-control, and reporting duties assigned by management.
