Disney Cruise Line is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Assistant Upholsterer to support the maintenance and refurbishment of upholstered furniture, carpets, curtains, canvas, and other soft furnishings throughout the vessel. The successful candidate will work closely with the Carpentry Team to ensure guest and crew areas maintain Disney’s exceptional standards of quality, comfort, and appearance. This role requires craftsmanship, teamwork, and a commitment to safety while working in a dynamic shipboard environment.
Assistant Upholsterer
Qualifications:
- At least one (1) year of upholstery experience, preferably on a large cruise vessel.
- Experience repairing upholstered furniture, carpets, curtains, canvas, and other soft furnishings.
- Knowledge of upholstery materials, sewing techniques, foam replacement, fabric installation, and furniture refurbishment.
- Ability to use upholstery tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality workmanship.
- Good organizational, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting materials, standing for extended periods, and working in various shipboard environments.
- Willing to work onboard Disney Cruise Line under a rotational contract.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Carpentry Team in repairing and maintaining upholstered furniture, cushions, headboards, seating, and other soft furnishings.
- Repair, replace, and maintain carpets, rugs, curtains, canvas, and fabric coverings throughout guest and crew areas.
- Perform basic upholstery work, including fabric replacement, foam repair, stitching, stapling, and furniture reassembly.
- Measure, cut, fit, and install upholstery materials according to specifications.
- Inspect furniture and furnishings regularly to identify wear, damage, or maintenance requirements.
- Assist in refurbishing furniture to maintain Disney Cruise Line’s appearance and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain upholstery tools, sewing machines, staple guns, cutting equipment, and other workshop tools safely.
- Maintain inventory of upholstery fabrics, foam, hardware, adhesives, and repair materials.
- Keep the upholstery workshop clean, organized, and compliant with safety standards.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with the Carpentry Team to minimize disruption to ship operations and guest areas.
- Follow company procedures for handling materials, waste disposal, and environmental protection.
- Participate in scheduled maintenance and refurbishment projects throughout the vessel.
- Attend and actively participate in mandatory firefighting, first aid, personal survival, and emergency response training.
- Promote and comply with all company health, safety, environmental, and maritime regulations.
- Perform other upholstery, carpentry support, and maintenance duties assigned by supervisors.
