Disney Cruise Line is seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Assistant Refrigeration Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of the vessel’s HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and refrigeration systems. The successful candidate will assist in ensuring reliable climate control and refrigeration for guest accommodations, public spaces, galleys, food storage areas, and technical spaces while maintaining compliance with maritime regulations, environmental standards, and Disney Cruise Line’s operational excellence.
Assistant Refrigeration Engineer
Qualifications:
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an HVAC or Refrigeration (Reefer) Technician, preferably on a large cruise vessel.
- Valid HVAC Certification.
- Valid EPA Certification (Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Handling Certification).
- Strong knowledge of modern climate control, HVAC, and refrigeration systems.
- Experience performing electrical fault finding and troubleshooting on HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
- Familiarity with marine refrigeration systems, chilled water systems, air handling units, and refrigeration controls.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures and refrigeration safety standards.
- Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, refrigeration schematics, and technical manuals.
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills in a multicultural environment.
- Physically fit and willing to work onboard Disney Cruise Line under a rotational contract.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preventive and corrective maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration equipment throughout the vessel.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair air conditioning units, chillers, compressors, condensers, evaporators, cooling systems, and refrigeration equipment.
- Perform electrical fault finding and diagnostics on HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Monitor the performance of refrigeration plants and climate control systems to ensure efficient operation.
- Conduct routine inspections of refrigeration equipment, temperature controls, and ventilation systems.
- Assist in servicing refrigerated storage rooms, freezers, chillers, galley refrigeration equipment, and air handling units.
- Monitor refrigerant levels, identify leaks, and perform repairs in accordance with environmental regulations.
- Ensure all new HVAC and refrigeration installations comply with Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) requirements and company standards.
- Perform routine maintenance, including filter replacement, lubrication, cleaning of coils, and system calibration.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair documentation using the ship’s maintenance management system.
- Safely operate diagnostic instruments, electrical testing equipment, and refrigeration service tools.
- Maintain inventory of refrigeration spare parts, refrigerants, tools, and maintenance supplies.
- Follow company safety procedures and environmental regulations when handling refrigerants and electrical equipment.
- Participate in emergency drills and fulfill assigned emergency response duties, including firefighting and damage control.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform other engineering and refrigeration maintenance duties assigned by the Chief Refrigeration Engineer or senior engineering officers.
