WOOD MACHINIST
Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of working experience as a Wood Machinist or in a related woodworking/machining position.
- Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in a relevant field.
- Must have a valid passport.
- Must have relevant experience in the same field.
- Practical experience operating manual and CNC woodworking machinery.
- Knowledge of operating saws, planers, routers, moulders, sanders, and other woodworking equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and specifications.
- Skilled in measuring, marking, cutting, shaping, routing, planing, moulding, and sanding timber.
- Ability to accurately select and prepare appropriate timber and wood materials for production.
- Good understanding of measurements, dimensions, tolerances, and woodworking specifications.
- Ability to inspect finished workpieces and identify dimensional, structural, and finishing defects.
- Basic knowledge of machine setup, adjustment, cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality workmanship.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements for woodworking operations.
- Knowledge of proper dust extraction procedures, machine guards, and use of protective equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently in a production or workshop environment.
- Good problem-solving and practical troubleshooting skills.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on woodworking and machining duties.
- Reliable, hardworking, disciplined, and safety-conscious.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, work orders, and specifications to determine required measurements, dimensions, cuts, and machining processes.
- Review project requirements and plan the appropriate sequence of woodworking operations.
- Select the correct type, grade, size, and quality of timber or wood stock for each project.
- Measure and mark timber accurately according to drawings, specifications, and production requirements.
- Set up and operate manual woodworking machinery and equipment.
- Set up and operate Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines for precision woodworking operations.
- Operate woodworking equipment such as saws, planers, routers, moulders, sanders, and other related machinery.
- Adjust machine settings, cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and other parameters according to material and production requirements.
- Perform cutting, shaping, planing, routing, moulding, sanding, and other machining processes.
- Monitor machines during operation to ensure accurate and consistent production.
- Inspect finished workpieces to verify dimensions, measurements, accuracy, fit, finish, and structural quality.
- Identify defects, inaccurate cuts, dimensional inconsistencies, or other quality issues and make necessary adjustments.
- Perform rework or corrections when finished products do not meet required specifications.
- Maintain accurate measurements and tolerances throughout the machining process.
- Clean, adjust, lubricate, and perform minor repairs on woodworking tools and machinery as required.
- Inspect machinery and equipment before use to ensure they are in safe and proper working condition.
- Report major machine defects, malfunctions, or maintenance requirements to the appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain proper operation of dust extraction systems and keep work areas free from excessive wood dust and debris.
- Properly store and maintain woodworking tools, cutting equipment, and materials.
- Follow production schedules and complete assigned work within required timeframes.
- Minimize material waste through accurate measurement, cutting, and efficient material handling.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including proper use of machine guards and protective equipment.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when operating machinery and performing woodworking tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Coordinate with supervisors, other machinists, carpenters, and production personnel to ensure smooth workflow.
- Perform other woodworking, machining, and production-related duties assigned by management.
