SHIP FITTER (PLATER)

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a shipyard, particularly in new ship construction projects.
  • Relevant experience as a Ship Fitter, Plater, or similar shipbuilding position.
  • Able to read and understand blueprint drawings, with basic to intermediate knowledge acceptable.
  • Good understanding of ship plating, structural fitting, alignment, and assembly work.
  • Able to use basic hand tools and measuring equipment used in shipyard operations.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on shipbuilding work.
  • Willing to undergo the required trade test.
  • Trade test is provided free of charge once the candidate passes the required screening.
  • With relevant TESDA training certificate.
  • Willing to follow shipyard safety rules, technical instructions, and workplace procedures.
  • Responsible, hardworking, reliable, and able to work effectively as part of a shipyard team.

Responsibilities:

  • Fit and assemble steel plates and structural components for new ship construction projects.
  • Read and interpret shipbuilding blueprints and technical drawings at a basic to intermediate level.
  • Measure, mark, cut, position, and align steel plates according to specified dimensions.
  • Perform fitting and preparation of plates before welding and final assembly.
  • Ensure proper alignment, dimensions, angles, and positioning of structural components.
  • Use measuring tools and hand tools appropriate for ship fitting and plating work.
  • Assist welders by properly preparing and positioning plates, stiffeners, brackets, and other components.
  • Follow shipyard work instructions, technical specifications, and approved construction procedures.
  • Check fitted components for proper dimensions, alignment, and workmanship before welding.
  • Work with welders, fabricators, supervisors, and other shipyard personnel to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist in assembling hull sections, decks, bulkheads, frames, and other ship structures as required.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and organization within the assigned work area.
  • Safely handle steel plates, tools, equipment, and materials used in shipbuilding.
  • Follow occupational health and safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Observe safe working practices when working at heights, in confined spaces, or around heavy materials and machinery.
  • Report fitting, alignment, material, or safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Perform other ship fitting, plating, fabrication, and shipyard duties as assigned.
