NECO Construction is seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join its construction and maintenance team in Palau. This opportunity is ideal for experienced mechanics with strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy equipment, vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Diesel Mechanic
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Mechanic, or similar position.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, heavy equipment, construction machinery, trucks, and diesel-powered systems.
- Skilled in mechanical troubleshooting, engine repair, preventive maintenance, servicing, and equipment inspection.
- Good knowledge of fuel systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, transmissions, braking systems, electrical starting and charging systems, and hydraulic components.
- Ability to use mechanical tools, diagnostic equipment, measuring instruments, and workshop equipment.
- Ability to read and understand equipment manuals, maintenance procedures, diagrams, and technical specifications.
- Experience repairing and maintaining construction equipment and heavy machinery is highly preferred.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills with attention to detail.
- Physically fit and capable of performing heavy mechanical work in demanding construction and workshop environments.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and proper handling of lubricants, fuels, and mechanical components.
- Reliable, hardworking, disciplined, and able to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel engines, heavy equipment, construction machinery, and diesel-powered vehicles.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, servicing, inspections, and repairs according to manufacturer recommendations and maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine-related problems using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, cooling systems, fuel systems, braking systems, steering systems, and exhaust systems.
- Perform oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, belt replacement, battery servicing, and other routine maintenance tasks.
- Inspect and repair components such as injectors, pumps, hoses, belts, bearings, seals, alternators, starters, and other engine parts.
- Troubleshoot engine starting problems, overheating, excessive smoke, loss of power, unusual noises, and other performance issues.
- Maintain and repair construction equipment such as excavators, loaders, backhoes, generators, trucks, and other diesel-powered machinery.
- Conduct equipment inspections and identify worn, damaged, or defective components requiring replacement or repair.
- Dismantle, rebuild, adjust, and reinstall engine and mechanical components as required.
- Use diagnostic tools, measuring instruments, hand tools, power tools, and specialized mechanical equipment safely and effectively.
- Conduct post-repair testing to ensure engines, vehicles, and equipment operate properly and safely.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment condition.
- Coordinate with equipment operators, supervisors, engineers, and other maintenance personnel to identify and resolve machinery problems.
- Maintain an adequate stock of commonly used spare parts, lubricants, tools, and maintenance supplies when required.
- Keep the workshop, tools, equipment, and work areas clean, organized, and safe.
- Follow manufacturer specifications, maintenance procedures, workplace safety standards, and environmental requirements.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing mechanical and maintenance work.
- Perform other diesel engine, equipment maintenance, repair, and mechanical duties assigned by management.
