Cake Decorator

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 2 years of working experience as a Cake Decorator or in a closely related pastry position.
• No minimum educational attainment is required for this position.
• Strong knowledge of cake construction and food-safe decorating materials.
• Strong artistic and creative skills with proficiency in various cake decorating techniques.
• Ability to create customized cake designs based on customer requirements, themes, and preferences.
• Experience preparing and working with icings, frostings, fillings, fondant, piping, and airbrushing.
• Good understanding of cake structure, finishing, decoration, and presentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce neat, precise, and visually appealing cake designs.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to consult with customers and understand their design ideas, color preferences, themes, and budget requirements.
• Ability to work efficiently while handling multiple cake orders and meeting deadlines.
• Strong sense of cleanliness, food safety, hygiene, and proper handling of decorating materials.
• Flexible and willing to work weekends and holidays according to business and production requirements.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a pastry and cake production team.
• Creative, reliable, organized, and committed to maintaining high-quality standards.

Responsibilities:

• Meet with customers to discuss cake designs, themes, color schemes, sizes, flavors, and budget options for special occasions such as weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations.
• Understand customer requirements and translate design concepts into practical cake decoration plans.
• Prepare cakes and ensure proper cake construction, layering, filling, and structural stability before decoration.
• Prepare and apply icings, frostings, creams, fillings, and other cake decorating materials.
• Apply smooth and even finishes to cakes using appropriate decorating techniques.
• Decorate cakes using fondant, piping, airbrushing, edible decorations, and other finishing techniques.
• Create customized cake designs according to customer specifications and approved designs.
• Produce decorative elements such as flowers, borders, lettering, figures, patterns, and themed decorations.
• Ensure proper color matching and consistency according to the customer’s requested theme and design.
• Maintain high standards of presentation, accuracy, creativity, and attention to detail.
• Ensure all decorating materials, tools, and ingredients are food-safe and suitable for use in cake production.
• Inspect finished cakes for appearance, decoration quality, cleanliness, and overall presentation before release to customers.
• Make necessary corrections or finishing adjustments to ensure cakes meet quality standards.
• Maintain clean, sanitized, and organized decorating stations, tools, and equipment.
• Follow proper food handling, sanitation, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures.
• Store decorating materials and ingredients properly to maintain freshness and quality.
• Coordinate with bakers, pastry staff, and other team members to ensure cakes are completed according to production schedules.
• Complete customized cake orders accurately and on time.
• Provide professional and courteous customer service throughout the cake ordering and design process.
• Keep updated with current cake decorating techniques, styles, trends, and creative design ideas.
• Perform other cake decorating and pastry-related duties assigned by management.
