Commercial Layer Operations Manager

Qualifications:

  • College graduate with a degree or qualification in Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, or a related field.
  • At least 6 years of work experience in commercial layer management.
  • Proven experience managing commercial layer farms, including cage-shed operations.
  • Strong knowledge of poultry production, flock management, egg production systems, bird health, and animal welfare.
  • Experience in farm performance monitoring, production planning, biosecurity, and operational cost management.
  • Strong strategic thinking, planning, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to supervise large teams, manage staff performance, and coordinate operations across multiple sites.
  • Knowledge of farm safety procedures, environmental compliance, food safety, and relevant industry standards.
  • Ability to analyze production data, prepare reports, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of commercial layer rearing and egg production farms across multiple sites.
  • Ensure production targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved, including bird livability, egg production, feed conversion, egg quality, and overall hen performance.
  • Develop, implement, and standardize operating procedures (SOPs) across all farm locations.
  • Monitor and analyze farm performance data, identify operational issues, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Coordinate bird placements, flock depletions, feed inventory and ordering, and production schedules with planning and logistics teams.
  • Ensure poultry sheds, cage systems, machinery, and other farm equipment are properly maintained and operating according to required specifications.
  • Uphold high standards of animal health and welfare in accordance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce strict biosecurity protocols across all farm sites.
  • Lead, supervise, mentor, and support farm personnel to achieve high levels of productivity and operational performance.
  • Recruit, interview, train, and develop employees to meet farm operational requirements.
  • Manage staff performance and discipline, including issuing warnings and handling termination processes in accordance with company policies and applicable employment laws.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on production performance, flock health, farm profitability, and site compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, environmental controls, workplace health and safety (WHS) policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits involving egg safety, food safety, animal welfare, and workplace compliance.
  • Work closely with Shed Bosses, Egg Collectors, Layer Supervisors, and other Farm Managers to maintain efficient farm operations.
  • Coordinate with hatchery personnel, veterinarians, maintenance teams, feed unloading personnel, and other support departments.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with external consultants and relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce operational costs, minimize losses, and enhance farm profitability.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination across all farm sites and operational departments.
