Spray Painter (Vehicle)

Qualifications:

• Trade qualification or relevant vocational training in Automotive Refinishing / Vehicle Painting preferred.
• Demonstrated ability in surface preparation, paint mixing and color matching, spray application, blending and finishing.
• Experience with modern automotive refinishing systems, spray booths and safe chemical handling.
• Must have completed at least a one-year vocational course or at least one year of college.
• Valid driver’s license preferred.
• Experience in an automotive collision-repair or panel-beating workshop is an advantage.
• Applicants whose experience is exclusively in industrial coating, building painting or heavy equipment painting without light-vehicle refinishing experience are not suitable for this role

Responsibilities:

• Prepare vehicle panels and body surfaces for refinishing, including cleaning, sanding, feather-edging, masking and surface preparation.
• Inspect repaired panels for surface defects and apply body filler, primer, primer-surfacer and sealers as required.
• Mix and match automotive paint colors using manufacturer specifications, color codes and appropriate tinting systems.
• Apply basecoats, clearcoats and other automotive refinishing coatings using spray guns and approved spray-booth procedures.
• Perform spot repairs, blending, full-panel and multi-panel refinishing on accident-damaged light vehicles.
• Check paint finish for color accuracy, coverage, texture and defects; rectify imperfections through polishing, buffing or refinishing.
• Operate and maintain spray guns, paint mixing equipment, compressors and spray-booth equipment safely.
• Coordinate with panel beaters and other workshop staff to ensure repaired vehicles meet quality and delivery standards.
• Maintain clean work areas, accurate job records and safe handling, storage and disposal of paints and chemicals.
• Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including correct PPE and respiratory protection
