Mechanic II (Heavy Equipment Maintenance)
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working in heavy equipment maintenance workshops is required.
- Experience maintaining heavy equipment used in mining operations is an advantage.
- No specific minimum educational attainment is indicated for this position.
- Male applicants are preferred.
- Knowledge of heavy equipment mechanical systems and maintenance procedures.
- Ability to perform routine, preventive, corrective, and emergency mechanical maintenance.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical equipment and diagnosing faults.
- Ability to inspect heavy equipment, attachments, and mechanical components.
- Familiarity with equipment used for drilling, crushing, loading, and material handling is an advantage.
- Knowledge of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, cooling systems, brakes, steering, and other heavy equipment components is an advantage.
- Ability to use mechanical hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment safely.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit and capable of working in a heavy equipment workshop and mining environment.
- Able to work under demanding site conditions and respond to equipment maintenance requirements.
- Willing to follow safety procedures, company policies, and supervisor instructions.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine, preventive, corrective, and emergency mechanical maintenance on heavy equipment used in mining operations.
- Inspect heavy machinery, equipment, attachments, and mechanical components for signs of wear, damage, or malfunction.
- Identify mechanical faults and determine the appropriate maintenance or repair requirements.
- Record required preventive and corrective maintenance activities on Work Request forms and submit them to the direct supervisor.
- Perform maintenance and repair activities to keep heavy equipment in safe, efficient, and reliable operating condition.
- Maintain equipment used for drilling, crushing, loading, material handling, and other mining operations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist in diagnosing equipment breakdowns.
- Repair, adjust, replace, and service defective or worn mechanical components.
- Conduct regular inspections of engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brakes, steering systems, cooling systems, and other mechanical components as applicable.
- Perform lubrication, oil and filter changes, component adjustments, and other preventive maintenance activities.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns and perform emergency repairs to minimize operational downtime.
- Inspect heavy equipment attachments and related components to ensure proper operation and safe use.
- Check equipment after maintenance or repairs to verify proper functionality before returning it to service.
- Follow equipment manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations, technical manuals, and established work procedures.
- Use appropriate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and workshop machinery safely.
- Coordinate with supervisors, equipment operators, engineers, and other maintenance personnel during repair and maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts replaced, and maintenance activities.
- Report major equipment defects, recurring mechanical problems, safety hazards, and additional repair requirements to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper housekeeping in the maintenance workshop and equipment work areas.
- Follow company policies, mining site procedures, health and safety requirements, and environmental standards.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing heavy equipment maintenance.
- Support maintenance activities designed to improve equipment reliability, operational continuity, and production efficiency.
- Perform other mechanical maintenance duties assigned by the direct supervisor.
