Qualifications:
- Male or Female, 21–35 years old.
- Previous experience as a Fishmonger, Seafood Handler, Fish Cutter, Seafood Processor, or related position is an advantage.
- Knowledge of fish and seafood cleaning, scaling, gutting, cutting, filleting, trimming, and portioning techniques.
- Ability to safely handle knives, filleting tools, seafood equipment, and weighing scales.
- Knowledge of seafood freshness, quality inspection, proper handling, refrigeration, and storage.
- Familiarity with food hygiene, sanitation, and food safety procedures.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to maintaining seafood quality and freshness.
- Able to work in a cold, wet, and fast-paced seafood department environment.
- Physically fit and capable of standing and performing manual work for extended periods.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
Responsibilities:
- Receive, inspect, clean, prepare, cut, fillet, and portion fresh fish and seafood products.
- Handle different types of fish, shellfish, and other seafood according to established preparation standards.
- Scale, gut, trim, debone, fillet, and cut fish according to customer requirements.
- Prepare whole fish and seafood portions for retail display and customer orders.
- Use knives, filleting tools, seafood cutters, scales, and other fish preparation equipment safely and correctly.
- Weigh seafood accurately according to required portions and customer orders.
- Package and label fish and seafood products properly for retail sale.
- Arrange fresh seafood attractively in refrigerated and ice displays.
- Maintain proper icing, refrigeration, and temperature-control procedures to preserve freshness.
- Inspect fish and seafood for freshness, quality, color, smell, texture, and overall condition.
- Remove spoiled, damaged, or unsuitable seafood products in accordance with company procedures.
- Follow proper product rotation and storage procedures to minimize spoilage and waste.
- Maintain strict food hygiene, sanitation, and food safety standards during seafood preparation.
- Prevent cross-contamination by properly handling and separating raw seafood products.
- Clean and sanitize knives, cutting boards, counters, display cases, equipment, utensils, and workstations.
- Maintain adequate ice supplies and ensure seafood displays remain properly chilled.
- Replenish seafood displays and maintain sufficient product availability throughout the shift.
- Assist customers with seafood selections and provide information regarding available cuts and products.
- Handle customer requests for specific fish cuts, fillets, portions, and preparation requirements.
- Monitor inventory and report shortages, damaged products, or quality concerns to supervisors.
- Assist with receiving and properly storing incoming seafood deliveries.
- Minimize product waste through proper cutting, trimming, portioning, and storage techniques.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe seafood preparation and display area.
- Follow company policies, workplace safety procedures, food safety standards, and operational requirements.
- Perform other fish preparation, seafood handling, and customer service duties assigned by management.
