Raumai 18 Ltd is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Genset Mechanic/Electrician to support the maintenance, repair, installation, and troubleshooting of diesel-powered generators and related mechanical and electrical systems in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing equipment faults, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring gensets, engines, electrical systems, hydraulic components, and control panels operate safely and efficiently.
GENSET MECHANIC/ELECTRICIAN
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic with experience in motor vehicle electrical systems, hydraulics, and gensets.
- Knowledge and practical experience in the maintenance, repair, and installation of diesel-electric power systems commonly used in marine vessels, locomotives, and heavy off-road equipment.
- Skilled in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines, gensets, control panels, and related components.
- Good knowledge of diesel engine operation, generator systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems.
- Experience in hydraulic systems, including inspection, troubleshooting, and basic repair.
- Ability to read and understand technical information, equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and service instructions.
- Competent in using mechanical and electrical diagnostic equipment and standard workshop tools.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to safe and reliable equipment operation.
- Technical college education and professional Diesel Certification are preferred.
- Physically capable of performing hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance work.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, hardworking, and able to work independently as well as with a technical team.
Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, gensets, and related power-generation equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults in diesel engines and generator sets.
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and install diesel-electric power systems and associated components.
- Troubleshoot and repair motor vehicle electrical systems and electrical components.
- Inspect and maintain generator control panels, wiring, switches, sensors, batteries, and other electrical parts.
- Conduct engine inspections and identify mechanical issues affecting performance and reliability.
- Repair or replace defective mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components as required.
- Perform servicing and maintenance of fuel, cooling, lubrication, exhaust, and starting systems.
- Check generator output, operating conditions, and overall equipment performance.
- Use appropriate diagnostic tools, testing equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and correctly.
- Carry out hydraulic system inspection, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair where required.
- Perform routine servicing, adjustments, component replacement, and equipment testing.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and testing of gensets and diesel-electric equipment.
- Ensure generators and related systems are properly maintained and ready for operation.
- Record maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, parts replaced, and equipment conditions.
- Identify potential equipment problems and recommend appropriate corrective or preventive action.
- Follow technical specifications, manufacturer recommendations, workplace procedures, and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area and properly care for tools and equipment.
- Coordinate with supervisors and other technical personnel during repairs, installations, and maintenance activities.
- Perform other mechanical, electrical, genset, and maintenance duties as assigned.
