Ace Alloy Wheel Repair is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Vehicle Painter to join its automotive repair team in Australia. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing vehicle surfaces, matching paint colors, applying primers and automotive coatings, and completing high-quality paint finishes. The role requires knowledge of automotive painting techniques, proper use of spray-painting equipment, and strict adherence to workplace health and safety standards.
VEHICLE PAINTER
Qualifications:
- Relevant training, certification, or qualification in automotive painting, vehicle refinishing, or a related field is an advantage.
- Previous experience as a Vehicle Painter or automotive spray painter is preferred.
- Knowledge of automotive surface preparation, priming, paint mixing, spraying, and finishing techniques.
- Familiarity with spray guns, paint-mixing systems, sanding tools, polishing equipment, and related workshop tools.
- Ability to match paint colors and achieve consistent finishes.
- Understanding of automotive paint products, coatings, solvents, and safe chemical handling.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to identify paint defects and carry out appropriate corrective procedures.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures and proper use of PPE.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on painting and refinishing tasks.
- Good time-management skills and the ability to meet workshop deadlines.
- Reliable, organized, hardworking, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Inspect vehicle surfaces to assess paint damage, scratches, chips, corrosion, and other defects.
- Prepare vehicles and vehicle components for painting and refinishing.
- Clean, sand, smooth, and prepare surfaces to ensure proper paint adhesion.
- Remove old paint, rust, grease, and other contaminants when required.
- Apply body fillers, primers, sealers, and undercoats according to repair specifications.
- Mask vehicle parts, trims, windows, tires, and other areas that must not be painted.
- Mix and prepare automotive paints, primers, clear coats, and other coating materials.
- Match paint colors using color codes, mixing formulas, and appropriate color-matching techniques.
- Operate spray guns and other painting equipment to apply even and consistent coatings.
- Apply base coats, topcoats, and clear coats according to manufacturer specifications.
- Paint vehicle panels, bumpers, trims, and other automotive components as required.
- Perform paint refinishing on alloy wheels and related components when assigned and within the required scope of work.
- Monitor paint thickness, coverage, color consistency, and surface finish.
- Inspect painted surfaces for imperfections such as runs, sags, orange peel, dust contamination, and uneven coverage.
- Carry out sanding, polishing, buffing, and other finishing procedures to achieve the required appearance.
- Correct minor paint defects and perform touch-up work when necessary.
- Maintain spray guns, compressors, paint-mixing equipment, and other tools in good working condition.
- Clean and store painting equipment properly after use.
- Handle paints, solvents, thinners, and other chemicals according to safety instructions.
- Follow workshop procedures for ventilation, fire prevention, hazardous material handling, and waste disposal.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection when required.
- Coordinate with panel beaters, automotive technicians, and other workshop personnel to complete repair jobs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe painting area.
- Follow manufacturer instructions, job specifications, and workshop quality standards.
- Perform other automotive painting and refinishing duties assigned by management.
