SHIP FITTER
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
- No minimum educational attainment is required for this position.
- Proven experience as a Ship Fitter in shipbuilding, ship repair, shipyard, or marine construction environments.
- Experienced in fitting and installing steel plates and structural components for ships.
- Strong ability to measure, mark, cut, align, and prepare steel materials accurately.
- Able to read and understand basic shipbuilding drawings and technical work instructions.
- Skilled in structural fitting, tack welding, joint preparation, and alignment of ship components.
- Familiarity with shipyard tools, cutting equipment, grinders, measuring instruments, clamps, and fitting equipment.
- Ability to work accurately with heavy steel materials and structural assemblies.
- Good understanding of shipbuilding and ship repair processes.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good knowledge of workplace health and safety procedures, including safe handling of heavy materials and equipment.
- Physically fit and capable of performing demanding shipyard work in various positions and environments.
- Able to work at heights, in confined areas, and in challenging shipyard conditions when required.
- Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
- Reliable, hardworking, adaptable, and committed to meeting project schedules and quality requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Fit and install steel plates, structural sections, frames, brackets, and other components used in ship construction and repair.
- Read and interpret basic shipbuilding drawings, technical plans, measurements, and work instructions.
- Measure and mark steel plates and structural materials accurately according to specified dimensions.
- Cut, shape, bevel, and prepare steel materials using appropriate tools and equipment.
- Position, align, and secure steel plates and structural components before welding.
- Perform tack welding to hold ship structures and components securely in their required positions.
- Check dimensions, alignment, levels, and positioning of fitted components to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare joints and surfaces for welding according to approved specifications and procedures.
- Use measuring instruments, cutting tools, grinders, clamps, jacks, and other ship-fitting equipment safely and correctly.
- Assist welders by ensuring materials and structural components are properly fitted and aligned for final welding.
- Inspect fitted structures for gaps, misalignment, distortion, and other defects before final welding.
- Make necessary adjustments, corrections, and modifications to ensure proper fit and alignment.
- Perform fitting and structural work during shipbuilding, ship repair, maintenance, and modification projects.
- Work with welders, fabricators, riggers, supervisors, and other shipyard personnel to complete assigned tasks.
- Follow approved shipyard procedures, technical specifications, quality requirements, and workplace safety rules.
- Safely handle and position heavy steel plates and structural components using appropriate lifting and handling methods.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from unnecessary hazards.
- Report material defects, structural discrepancies, equipment problems, or safety concerns to the supervisor.
- Complete assigned fitting work according to project schedules while maintaining accuracy and quality.
- Perform other related ship-fitting and shipyard duties as assigned by management.
