Excavator Operator

Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience is required.
• Minimum more than 5 years of experience operating relevant excavator equipment.
• Must be a Vocational Diploma / Short Course Certificate holder in Others or a similar field.
• Minimum Lower Vocational Education (LBO) level or equivalent.
• Proven experience operating excavators in earthmoving, excavation, construction, mining, infrastructure, land clearing, or similar operations.
• Required level of training in advanced equipment operation and safety.
• Completion of Basic Operator Training (BOT), Basic Operator Safety (BOS), and Machine Operator Training (MOT), with a minimum score of 70% where applicable.
• Strong knowledge of safe excavator operation, excavation techniques, material handling, and site procedures.
• Experience loading trucks/ADTs and managing material stockpiles.
• Experience constructing bund walls, ditches, trenches, and performing general excavation work.
• Experience performing bush clearing on varying or difficult terrain is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of pre-start inspections, routine operator care, and equipment defect reporting.
• Physically fit and capable of working outdoors and in demanding site conditions.
• Strong awareness of workplace hazards, ground conditions, machine operating limits, and safe work practices.
• Willing and able to comply with HSEC-Q procedures, pre-job meetings, risk assessment/JSA requirements, and PPE rules.
• Good communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with supervisors, maintenance personnel, truck operators, and other site workers.
• Reliable, disciplined, safety-conscious, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to equipment safety, environmental requirements, and company operating procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Operate excavators safely, efficiently, and effectively according to the machine’s intended purpose and assigned work.
• Conduct excavation, earthmoving, loading, clearing, and material-handling activities as required.
• Load trucks and Articulated Dump Trucks (ADTs) safely and efficiently.
• Manage and move materials on stockpiles while maintaining safe and controlled machine operations.
• Construct bund walls, ditches, trenches, and other earthworks using the excavator.
• Perform excavation work according to site plans, work instructions, and project requirements.
• Carry out bush clearing on varying and difficult terrain while following approved site procedures.
• Clear vegetation, debris, and other obstructions using appropriate excavator attachments and techniques.
• Operate the excavator carefully around personnel, vehicles, structures, utilities, and other equipment.
• Conduct daily pre-start inspections and equipment checks before operating the excavator.
• Check hydraulic systems, engine components, tracks, attachments, controls, safety devices, and other critical equipment before each shift.
• Report mechanical defects, equipment damage, abnormal operating conditions, or safety concerns immediately.
• Perform routine operator care, including cleaning, lubrication, and basic equipment maintenance as required.
• Assist maintenance personnel with equipment inspections, troubleshooting, and servicing when required.
• Ensure excavator attachments and accessories are properly secured and suitable for the assigned task.
• Operate equipment within safe load, capacity, terrain, and environmental limits.
• Maintain awareness of ground conditions, slopes, excavation hazards, overhead hazards, and other site risks.
• Participate in pre-job meetings, toolbox meetings, risk assessments, and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) activities.
• Follow all HSEC-Q procedures, site safety requirements, environmental controls, and company operating standards.
• Properly use and maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Complete and submit accurate equipment checklists after each shift.
• Prepare and submit complete daily operator reports covering machine operation, work completed, operating hours, defects, and other required information.
• Maintain the excavator and work area in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
• Coordinate with truck drivers, supervisors, maintenance personnel, surveyors, and other site workers.
• Stop work and report unsafe conditions or equipment issues in accordance with site safety procedures.
• Perform other excavator operation and earthmoving duties assigned by management.
