EDITOR

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years work experience
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certifications in editing or publishing are a plus.
• Proven experience as an editor, copyeditor, or proofreader, preferably in a publishing, media, or content marketing environment. A strong portfolio showcasing edited content and writing samples is required.
• Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax. Familiarity with style guides and editorial standards, such as AP Stylebook or The Chicago Manual of Style.
• Strong editing and proofreading skills, with a meticulous attention to detail and an ability to spot errors and inconsistencies in written content.
• Proficiency in editing software and tools, such as Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or Adobe Acrobat, as well as knowledge of track changes and commenting features.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with writers, editors, and stakeholders.
• Adaptability and flexibility to work on a variety of content types, topics, and formats, and to accommodate shifting priorities and deadlines.
• Passion for storytelling, writing, and language, with a commitment to upholding high editorial standards and delivering polished, professional content.

Responsibilities

• Content Editing: Review and edit written content, including articles, blog posts, reports, marketing materials, and other documents, for clarity, coherence, and consistency. Ensure that content aligns with brand voice, style guidelines, and audience
• Structural Editing: Provide structural editing and feedback to improve the overall organization, flow, and logic of written materials. Revise content for structure, pacing, and readability, ensuring that ideas are communicated effectively
• Copyediting: Perform copyediting tasks, including grammar, punctuation, spelling, and syntax corrections, to maintain accuracy and readability. Check for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style, adhering to established editorial standards
• Fact-Checking: Conduct fact-checking and verification of factual information, statistics, sources, and references cited in written content. Ensure accuracy, credibility, and integrity of information presented to readers.
• Style Guide Adherence: Ensure consistency and adherence to style guidelines, brand standards, and editorial policies across all content. Familiarize yourself with style guides, such as APA, MLA, Chicago Manual of Style, or company-specific style guides, and apply them consistently in editing.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with writers, content creators, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to refine content and address feedback. Communicate effectively with team members to clarify edits, discuss revisions, and ensure alignment with project objectives.
• Deadline Management: Manage editorial schedules, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Coordinate with project managers, content producers, and other team members to ensure timely completion of editing assignments.
• Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough quality assurance checks to review edited content for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with editorial standards. Review final proofs and approve content for publication or distribution, ensuring that it meets quality and brand requirements.
