Techforce Personnel Pty. Ltd. is seeking qualified and experienced Belt Splicers to work in Australia. The successful candidates will be responsible for performing conveyor belt splicing, mechanical fitting, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities in industrial, manufacturing, mining, or heavy equipment environments.
BELT SPLICER
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical Fitter, with significant hands-on experience in belt splicing.
- Experience in industrial, manufacturing, mining, conveyor systems, or heavy equipment environments.
- Proven ability to perform conveyor belt splicing, belt repairs, and related mechanical maintenance tasks.
- Verifiable employment history supported by Certificates of Employment (COEs), payslips, employment contracts, DMW information sheets where applicable, or other acceptable employment records.
- A trade qualification in Mechanical Fitting or an equivalent technical qualification is preferred.
- Relevant qualifications such as Diesel Engine Servicing NC II/NC III, Automotive Servicing NC II/NC III, Heavy Equipment Servicing NC II, or Mechatronics Servicing NC II may be an advantage, subject to employer assessment.
- If not a college graduate, must have a valid English test result or be willing to take an English test as soon as possible, as required by the employer.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and specifications.
- Competent in using hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments.
- Strong fault-finding, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of preventive maintenance, mechanical repairs, and equipment safety.
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and safe work procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Physically fit and capable of performing hands-on mechanical work in industrial or site environments.
- Reliable, safety-conscious, adaptable, and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities:
Belt Splicing and Conveyor Maintenance
- Perform conveyor belt splicing, joining, repair, and maintenance in accordance with technical specifications and approved procedures.
- Inspect conveyor belts for wear, damage, misalignment, and other conditions that may affect operational performance.
- Prepare belt surfaces and materials for splicing using the appropriate tools, equipment, and techniques.
- Carry out belt cutting, preparation, alignment, joining, and finishing tasks according to job requirements.
- Assist with conveyor belt installation, replacement, tracking, and tensioning as required.
- Inspect completed splices to ensure quality, strength, alignment, and compliance with specifications.
- Identify belt defects and recommend appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
Mechanical Installation and Assembly
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, and mechanical specifications.
- Assemble, fit, install, and align mechanical components, including bearings, shafts, gears, pumps, and motors.
- Ensure machinery and components are installed within required tolerances using precision measuring instruments.
- Assist with the commissioning, testing, and adjustment of mechanical systems.
- Verify that installed components operate correctly and safely.
Maintenance and Repair
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on conveyor systems and other mechanical equipment.
- Inspect machinery to identify faults, wear, damage, and potential equipment failures.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and implement effective repair solutions.
- Repair, replace, or refurbish defective components to restore equipment performance.
- Conduct routine servicing and adjustments to maintain equipment reliability.
- Assist with breakdown maintenance and urgent repairs when required.
Fault Finding and Diagnostics
- Troubleshoot mechanical systems, conveyor equipment, and machinery breakdowns.
- Use appropriate diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and measuring instruments to determine the causes of faults.
- Identify recurring mechanical problems and recommend corrective actions.
- Work collaboratively with other tradespeople and maintenance personnel to resolve complex technical issues.
- Report major defects, equipment failures, and additional repair requirements to supervisors.
Safety and Compliance
- Comply with Australian workplace health and safety (WHS/OHS) requirements and site-specific safety procedures.
- Follow permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS).
- Conduct assigned safety checks and identify potential hazards before starting work.
- Use hand tools, power tools, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE) safely.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and free from unnecessary hazards.
- Follow applicable isolation, lockout/tagout, and other site safety procedures when required.
Documentation and Reporting
- Complete maintenance logs, service reports, inspection records, and job cards accurately and on time.
- Document belt splicing, repair activities, and maintenance work performed.
- Report equipment breakdowns, defects, and repair outcomes to supervisors.
- Communicate work progress, technical concerns, and material requirements to the maintenance team.
- Provide feedback on recurring issues and support continuous improvement initiatives.
