Seafarers first. The principle which inspired the people behind the birth of UNITRA MARITIME MANILA INC. a few years ago.

Unitra Maritime Manila, Inc. (UMMI) is a company duly organized and existing under and by virtue of the laws of the Republic of the Philippines. We are a licensed manning agency engaged in the process of recruitment through deployment of shipboard personnel according to the specific requirements of the principals consequently providing employment opportunities to able and qualified Filipino seafarers.

The company was officially recognized by the Securities and Exchange Commission on the 29th of March 2009 and began navigating in the manning industry on the 22nd of June 2009 as it was finally granted its License to Operate by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.

?That 22nd of June was indeed an eventful day. It was on that same day that the company’s first Principal— VT Maritime Inc. and first vessel—Venus Triumph were accredited and enrolled, and the employment contracts of the first batch of crew were processed accordingly, all in a day’s work. On the 26th of June 2009, UMMI successfully deployed its first crew for the vessel Venus Triumph composed of a Captain, a Chief Officer, a Chief Engineer, and a First Engineer.

For its start-up operations, UMMI initially hired a lean number of personnel; three (3) staffs and two (2) officers multi-tasked to get the business rolling. For a time, even the company President himself, aside from being the Chief Executive and Operations Officer of UMMI, acted as the Liaison Officer to POEA and to all the other regulatory agencies of the government just to support the company’s pioneering operations. At present, there are already 18 personnel, including the President, working as a team to gain and maintain that reputable spot in the manning industry.

Unitra Maritime Manila, Inc. (UMMI) set sail with only one (1) vessel and twenty one (21) crew members in pool. But through the expert piloting skills of its Board of Directors, headed by Capt. Victor M. Villanueva and Mr. Yuji Hoshiba, in handling the business effectively, UMMI is now providing exceptional manning services to 5 Principals with a total of 20 vessels at sea (7-General Cargo; 6-Bulk; 5-LPG Tanker; 2-Heavy lift). To date, there are about 310 UMMI crew (119-Officers; 191-Ratings) on board managing the Principals’ vessels catering to Far East Asia and worldwide trades.

True to its mission to produce and serve delighted and contented seafarers by putting them first in our priority list every time, all the time, UMMI is continuously investing in the career and personal development of our seafarers. To broaden the technical and chartering expertise of our seafarers, UMMI is strengthening its Junior Officer Career Advancement Program (JOCAP) and Cadetship Program, supported with immense maritime training at POS-FIL MTC Corp. to ensure that the company will provide only the top-quality seafarers that will meet the standards of its loyal principals.

To ensure that our seafarers and principals receive only quality services, the company obtains outsourced support only from certified and nationally accredited clinics, travel agencies, training centers, banks, and other organizations that, just like UMMI, works with “quality” in mind. To further ensure quality is achieved every time, UMMI applied for Quality Management System accreditation and was duly certified by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai on October 24, 2013.

Qualifications for Job Applicants

The agency ensure that only Filipino workers are qualified and medically-fit are deployed. Hence, Filipino workers are medically examined by government-accredited medical clinics or hospitals and trade-tested or trained by training centers authorized by the government.

• Qualification of Seafarers – Only seafarers certified as competent and qualified shall work, be employed or be engaged onboard a ship.
• Minimum Age – No person below eighteen (18) years old shall work, be employed or be engaged onboard a ship.
• Medical Certification – The seafarer shall hold a valid medical certificate issued by a medical facility duly accredited by the Department of Health (DOH) for that purpose, in accordance with its existing rules and regulations.
