New Filipino Maritime Agencies, Inc. was duly organized and incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission in September 21, 1971. The primary business and purpose of the company are basically as follows:
- to provide crew management and recruitment services to various foreign shipping companies.
- to act as General Agents and provide Husbanding Services for various shipping companies and shipping operators whose vessels call at different Philippine Ports.
- Newfil from the time it was organized almost 48 years ago has been in the business of providing qualified Filipino officers and ratings mainly to different types of vessels owned and operated by various Japanese shipping companies.
After Mr. Philip S. Tuazon resigned as Executive Vice President and Director on March 31, 2012. Mr. Victor A. Tuazon was appointed President and Chairman while Capt. Cesar B. Omnes became Executive Vice President. Then on January 23, 2014 Mr. Victor A. Tuazon resigned as President but retained his Chairmanship of the Board of Directors. Capt. Cesar B. Omnes was appointed President and COO.
New Filipino Maritime Agencies, Inc. also acts as General Agents and provide husbanding services to various foreign shipping companies whose vessels call the Philippines. Further, Newfil has been appointed by JFE STEEL CORPORATION as the sole and exclusive General Agents for all vessels calling the PHILIPPINE SINTER CORPORATION, since it started operation sometime in April 1977, in:
- Villanueva, Misamis Oriental – To service the requirements of Philippine Sinter Corporation (PSC). About 5 million tons of Iron Ore and almost an equal quantity is exported in the form of Sintered Ore mainly to Japan
- Garcia Hernandez, Bohol – To service the requirements of Philippine Mining Service Corporation (PMSC) in the export of limestone to Japan and Taiwan. About 1 million tons of limestone is exported annually.
- Alcoy, Cebu – To service the requirements of JFE Steel Corporation in the export of Dolomite Ores to Japan and Taiwan. About 1 million of Dolomite is exported annually.

Qualifications for Job Applicants
The agency ensure that only Filipino workers are qualified and medically-fit are deployed. Hence, Filipino workers are medically examined by government-accredited medical clinics or hospitals and trade-tested or trained by training centers authorized by the government.
- Qualification of Seafarers – Only seafarers certified as competent and qualified shall work, be employed or be engaged onboard a ship.
- Minimum Age – No person below eighteen (18) years old shall work, be employed or be engaged onboard a ship.
- Medical Certification – The seafarer shall hold a valid medical certificate issued by a medical facility duly accredited by the Department of Health (DOH) for that purpose, in accordance with its existing rules and regulations.
