Home Support Worker

Qualifications

  • Have at least 2 years of experience in the past 5 years related to the position.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job, including bending, twisting, standing for extended periods, performing repetitive motions, manual material handling, and occasional walking or running.
  • Language Proficiency: With Valid General Training IELTS equivalent to a minimum of CLB 4 /CELPIP

Responsibilities

  • Provide care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption.
  • Administer bedside and personal care to clients such as aid in ambulation, bathing, personal hygiene, and dressing and undressing.
  • Plan and prepare meals and special diets, and feed or assist in feeding clients.
  • May perform routine health-related duties such as changing non-sterile dressings, assisting in the administration of medications and collecting specimens under the general direction of home care agency supervisor or nurse.
  • May perform routine housekeeping duties such as laundry, washing dishes and making beds.

      I have worked as a Prep cook in the nursing home in Mill Creek Sutherland in Kelowna, Canada, for more than 5 years. And while I work as a Cook as my main job, I do have extra or part-time jobs doing a home support job for elders and special persons with disability. I do cooking for them, help them by assisting them to bathe themselves in the shower, and clean their house. making sure that they are fresh, clean, and presentable.
