Ammonia Plant Engineer

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required, technical diploma or associate’s degree in chemical processing, mechanical or electrical engineering, with a background in refrigeration and project management.
• 2+ years of experience in ammonia or chemical plant operations is preferred.
• Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA systems is a plus.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working in FMCG or preferably food manufacturing industry on operation & maintenance activities.
• Excellent understanding of safety and GMP standards for food manufacturing
• Excellent understanding of maintenance planning & and execution.
• A good understanding on CMMS (SYSPRO, PRONTO, SAP).
• Supervisory & Managerial experience is desirable
• Strong understanding of chemical processing and ammonia production principles.
• Ability to read and interpret P&ID diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Mechanical aptitude with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English with senior management, counterparts and direct reports.
• Display maturity in and out of work
• Must be able to coordinate work of crew/direct reports well.
• Contributes to the overall success of the Taraka Plant by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Responsibilities

• Monitor process parameters such as temperature, pressure, and flow rates via Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
• Operate and control ammonia production equipment to ensure efficient and continuous production.
• Adjust controls to maintain optimal plant performance and product quality.
• Conduct routine inspections of machinery and troubleshoot operational issues.
• Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper handling of hazardous materials and emergency response procedures.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations (e.g., OSH&E, EPA) and company policies.
• Participate in safety drills and maintain knowledge of hazardous material handling, including ammonia leaks and emergency shutdown procedures.
• Conduct risk assessments and report potential hazards.
• Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, and minor repairs on plant machinery.
• Work with maintenance teams to schedule and execute preventive maintenance.
• Identify and report equipment malfunctions or inefficiencies to the maintenance department.
• Maintain accurate logs and records of plant operations, including shift reports, production data, and incidents.
• Report any process deviations, equipment failures, or safety concerns to supervisors.
• Assist in preparing reports for regulatory agencies and internal audits
• Conduct product sampling and testing to ensure ammonia purity meets industry standards.
• Collaborate with process engineers to optimize plant performance and improve efficiency.
• Implement operational best practices to minimize waste and reduce environmental impact
