Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a post-secondary program in Heavy Equipment Mechanic technology or a related field preferred.
- Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in heavy equipment mechanics.
- At least 5 years of relevant on-the-job training experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, with a focus on instrumentation systems.
- Technical training in heavy equipment mechanics, hydraulics, electrical systems, and instrumentation gained through recognized programs or courses.
- Relevant certifications such as ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified Heavy Equipment Technician or similar certification in instrumentation and control systems.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with an emphasis on hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Valid driver’s license and, where applicable, appropriate heavy equipment operator certification.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently.
- Commitment to safety practices and regulations within the workplace
Responsibilities:
- Preventive Maintenance (PM)
- Perform scheduled PM per OEM intervals (e.g., 250/500/1,000 hrs)
- Change engine oil, filters (fuel, air, hydraulic, transmission)
- Grease all pivot points (especially loader arms, excavator swing, crane boom)
- Inspect & top-up fluids (coolant, DEF, hydraulic oil)
- Check belts, hoses, batteries, alternators
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
- Use diagnostic software
- fault codes, interpret live data (pressures, temps, RPM)
- Diagnose engine, hydraulic, electrical, transmission issues
- Perform pressure tests (hydraulic pumps, lift cylinders)
- Repairs & Overhauls
- eEngine: cylinder head gaskets, injectors, turbochargers
- Transmission: clutch packs, torque converters
- Hydraulics: reseal cylinders, replace pumps/valves
- Brakes: air system (S-cam, slack adjusters), ABS modules
- Undercarriage (excavator/loader): track chains, rollers, idlers
- Electrical: wiring harness repairs, ECM reprogramming
- 4. Welding & Fabrication
- Weld cracked buckets, booms, frames (stick/MIG)
- Fabricate guards, brackets, repair body damage
- Safety & Compliance
- Conduct pre-shift inspections (OSHA/MSHA style)
- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) before repairs
- Inspect crane wire ropes, hooks, safety latches (monthly)
- Verify garbage truck PTO engagement safety
- Maintain fire suppression systems
Parts & Inventory
- Identify & order correct OEM/aftermarket parts
- Maintain min/max stock of filters, seals, belts
- 7. Documentation & Reporting
- Log all work
- Complete DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports)
- Photo-document major repairs
- Field Service (if applicable) <choe
- Respond to breakdowns on-site</choe
- Carry field service kit: tools, laptop, pressure gauges, multimeter
- Perform emergency repairs (e.g., hydraulic hose burst)
- The work is shop based. There maybe a need to do field work if the equipment are down on the road, but mostly doing work at the shop.
Requirements:
- Must have a valid passport for more than 3 years
- Employment certificates
- NBI clearance valid for at least 1 year with “no derogatory / no record on file” remarks
- PEOS certificate
