Carpet Installer (Floor Finisher)

Qualifications:

• High school diploma and at least a vocational diploma, or short course certificate
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience
• Minimum of 3 years’ work experience as a Carpet Installer or Floor Finisher
• Must be skilled in installing carpets and flooring by gluing or stapling them to floors, stairs, or walls.
• Must be skilled in finishing edges with a wall trimmer and correcting imperfections.
• Must have a strong measuring and planning skills to develop layout plans and patterns for carpet installation..
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Excellent physical ability to lift materials, use hand tools, and work in tight spaces.
• Good English communication skills to liaise with warehouse for stocking and to communicate with clients for accurate quotes and installation dates.
• Must be able to provide work references and salary evidence.

Responsibilities:

• Installing and repairing soft and resilient carpets and floor coverings.
• Measuring areas to be covered and consulting plans to estimate quantities of floor covering materials required.
• Preparing surfaces for covering and removing baseboard trims.
• Measuring, cutting and fixing underlay materials.
• Laying coverings, such as carpets, linoleum, parquetry blocks, cork tiles and other resilient flooring materials, over floors, matching patterns, cutting shapes around fixtures and trimming edges.
• Securing floor coverings and fitting edge trims in doorways.
• Sanding, staining and applying finishing coatings to timber floors.
