Reinforcing Fitter Assistant

Qualifications:

• Physical Fitness: Physically demanding tasks, including lifting and bending, so you should be in good physical condition.
• Safety Training: Reinforcing laborers must be familiar with construction safety regulations and guidelines, such as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards or their local equivalent, to ensure a safe work environment.
• Basic Skills: Basic literacy and numeracy skills are essential for tasks like reading construction plans, measuring, cutting, and following instructions.
• Experience: Previous construction or steel fixing experience, but entry-level positions are available for those without experience.
• Tools Familiarity: Knowledge of basic construction tools and equipment used in steel fixing, such as pliers, wire cutters, tying tools, and rebar benders, can be beneficial.

Responsibilities:

• Material Handling: Transporting and unloading rebar and other construction materials at the job site.
• Rebar Cutting and Bending: Cutting rebar to the required lengths and bending it according to construction plans and specifications.
• Rebar Tying: Tying rebar together using wire or tying tools to create the reinforcing structures needed for concrete structures.
• Supporting Skilled Workers: Assisting experienced reinforcing fitters (steel fixers) with various tasks, such as positioning rebar, securing it in place with tie wire, and adjusting it as necessary.
• Safety Compliance: Strictly following safety guidelines and procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
• This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensuring that the work area is safe.
• Cleanup: Keeping the work area clean and organized by disposing of waste materials and cleaning up at the end of each workday.
• Communication: Maintaining effective communication with other workers, supervisors, and contractors on the construction site to ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and safely.
• Adaptability: Being flexible and able to perform various tasks as needed to support the reinforcing fitter and the construction project’s progress.
• Problem-Solving: Identifying and addressing issues or obstacles related to rebar installation and assisting in finding solutions.
